The inland Asmat generally have a smaller physique. Male personal adornment usually consists of a penis sheath made from a bottle gourd or the upper beak of the hornbill. They are also known to wear belts of rattan that are reminiscent of those found among the Highland Asmat.
The coastal Asmat adornment was traditionally to be naked. Today, many of the coastal Asmat wear Western clothes. Women from both regions are usually at home and wear grass skirts or cord, which are put together between the legs, above the buttocks and winds around to the waist like a belt.
